Bachelor of Arts in Physical Science

Introduction

Students pursuing a degree in Physics at California State University Stanislaus as freshmen will be able to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Science by following the following schedule of courses. Please note the following:

This road map is a guide only, a starting point for planning an individual student's course of study. It does not replace the normal process of advising. Students in the department are assigned a faculty advisor, with whom the student should meet regularly. Meeting once a semester is mandatory, more than once is recommended.
This road map assumes that students are well prepared coming into the university, especially in mathematical skills. If extra mathematical preparation is required then an individual program of study should be developed with the students advisor.
Students transferring for other colleges, including junior colleges would normally enter this schedule at the junior year. However, it is imperative to talk to an advisor as soon as possible after notification of acceptance is received to assess each individual student's transfer course credit.
Students wo transfer from another major should also talk to an advisor as soon as possible to assess course credit.
Phys 2250 and 2260 (General Physics I and II) and Chem 1100 and 1110 (Principles of Chemistry I and II) have required associated discussion and laboratory sections. (Note: Phys 2100 and 2110 (Basic Physics I and II) may be substituted for Phys 2250 and 2260. Check with your advisor.
The Physical Science major requires 24 units of upper division classes in the physical sciences (Physics, Astronomy, Geology, Chemistry, and Mathematics) without specifying the courses. Students taking this major must develop an individual course plan with his/her advisor before starting the upper division classes.
Course availability in specific semesters is not guaranteed. Check with your advisor for updates to the schedule.
Because of the shortness of the winter and summer semesters, the department does not offer classes for the major in these semesters. These are good semester to take care of graduation requirements outside of the major.
No classes for summer are listed. Students taking GE classes in the summer will have an advantage in completing the program within four years.
Students should take the WPST in either the fall or winter semesters of their junior year.
A total of 120 units is required for graduation, of which 102 are required to fulfill the major. The remaining units can be selected from university offerings, for example to complete a minor in another discipline. Students should consult with an advisor for help help in selecting courses.
